How Haunt Uses Vemetric to Optimize Dashboard Navigation and User Experience

"Vemetric gives me the clarity I need to understand which features users actually engage with."

Haunt is a biolink platform that goes far beyond simple link-in-bio pages. Users can create highly customizable profiles with background effects, audio players, social card integrations, multiple layout themes, and visual effects like animated borders and custom cursors.

What started as a side project has grown into a platform with a dedicated community, a Discord server, and a small team of staff members. Built with Next.js and PostgreSQL, Haunt serves users who want their online presence to stand out.

The Challenge: Understanding Real User Behavior

With a feature-rich dashboard and dozens of customization options, the Haunt team faced a common problem: they didn’t know how users actually navigated the platform. Which quick links in the sidebar got clicked? Which were ignored? And how did users prefer to log in?

Traditional analytics tools could show page views, but they couldn’t answer these specific questions. The team needed granular event tracking without the complexity of enterprise solutions.

The Solution: Tracking What Matters

Vemetric’s custom event tracking made it easy to instrument the exact interactions the team cared about.

The dashboard sidebar contains quick links to help users navigate between features. With Vemetric, every click is now tracked, revealing which shortcuts users rely on most and which ones rarely get used.

This data directly informs UX decisions: underperforming links can be swapped out for more useful ones, ensuring the sidebar always offers the best experience.

Login Method Tracking

Haunt offers multiple authentication options, and understanding which methods users prefer helps optimize the login flow. Vemetric tracks each login method separately, showing clear preferences in the data.

If one method dominates while others see minimal use, the team can simplify the login screen or improve the UX for the less popular options.

Funnel Tracking for Signups

The Haunt landing page features a username input field that lets visitors check availability and start the registration process directly. With Vemetric’s Funnel tracking, the team can see exactly how many users interact with this input and how many actually complete the signup.

User Journeys for Deep Insights

One feature the team finds particularly valuable is Vemetric’s User Journeys. This allows them to identify individual users and see exactly which pages they visited and how they navigated through the dashboard.

Instead of just aggregate numbers, the team can follow real user journeys: Where did they start? Which features did they explore? Where did they drop off? This level of detail helps uncover UX issues that would be invisible in traditional analytics.

“With User Stories, I can actually see how someone navigates through the dashboard. That’s incredibly valuable when you’re trying to figure out why a feature isn’t getting used.”

Privacy-First: No Cookies Required

A major advantage of Vemetric is that all tracking works without cookies. For Haunt, this means no annoying cookie banners disrupting the user experience, while still getting the insights needed to improve the platform.

Users can enjoy the site without consent popups, and the team gets accurate analytics. Everyone wins.

Beyond Haunt: Vemetric as the Go-To for Every Project

Vemetric has become the first thing Patrick sets up when starting a new project. Whether it’s a small side project or a larger platform, having analytics from day one provides valuable insights right from the start.

This approach is already in use across multiple projects:

  • Bender Bot (bender.rest) – A multi-functional Discord bot
  • Tasktrail (tasktrail.app) – A task management platform with projects and team member assignments
  • Vibrance (vibrance.ltd) – A portfolio site showcasing all projects

For small projects, the lightweight setup is perfect: add the script, and tracking just works. No complex configuration, no maintenance overhead. This means every project benefits from real analytics data, even in its earliest stages.

“Whenever I start a new project, Vemetric is one of the first things I add. It takes minutes to set up, and I get insights from day one.”

Looking Ahead: Feature Discoverability

The next step is expanding tracking to measure feature engagement across the entire platform. The goal: identify which features are underused, not because they’re unwanted, but because they’re hard to find.

With this data, the team can determine whether low engagement signals a discoverability problem or a feature that simply doesn’t resonate. This insight will guide decisions about UI improvements, onboarding flows, and where to surface features more prominently.

“When I’m shipping new features regularly, I need to know if they land. Vemetric gives me that feedback loop without adding complexity to my workflow.”
